If Conexant installer gives the common error.....force install the Conexant sound drivers.
Device Manager>Audio device on High Def
Right click, Update Driver
Say "no, not at this time" for connecting to Windows Update
Select> Install from a list or specific location
Select> Don't search I will choose the driver to install
In the list of common hardware types,choose "show all"
Remove the check from "Show Compatible Hardware" and click on "Have Disk"
Next...browse to C:\Swsetup\sp34200
Choose the "inf" and ignore any protest from XP
Reboot.

Those glorified Saints at HP tech support refused to help with their own product. Company under pressure from Bill Gates to stop Win Xp install.
