For ATI graphics, ATI mobolity radeon HD 6450 and 6470,  12.3 ati catalyst driver (you can google it) is preferable, but going with the latest catalyst normally better.

  1. I have same configuration as shown in post but i am not able to use graphics card as I can't find driver for it. even vga driver link given in post is not working.

    1. open device manager (click start - select RUN -type DEVMGMT.MSC - press OK)

    2. Look for devices with YELLOW MARK. right click on it and select PROPPERTIES, select DETAILS, on the dropdown menu select Hardware ID, post it here.
    IF you have more then one device with yellow, also get the hardware ID and post here

    first make sure you are using windows xp on your dell, 2nd check in device manager for the wireless hardware ID:

    1. open device manager (click start - select RUN -type DEVMGMT.MSC - press OK)

    2. Look for devices with YELLOW MARK. right click on it and select PROPPERTIES, select DETAILS, on the dropdown menu select Hardware ID, post it here.

  14. Hi all my drivers installed correctly except for my Wlan driver that doesn't want to install because it says that the card isn't present or installed. That's what's written in my Network Controller details: PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4353&SUBSYS_000E1028&REV_01\4&1CD20F91&0&00E1. Thank you

  15. Download this driver:
    http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R251496.exe
    Make sure you have winrar installed.
    1. right click on R251496.exe and select extract. (remember the location for the extracted file)
    2. Open device manager - right click on the network marked with yellow and select update driver.
    3. Select Browse my computer for driver software.
    4. Click browse and point to the extracted folder and continue with on screen instruction and reboot.

    rmember to check windows update to see if there are updates for your network card.

    look at the device manager, look under the display adapter and make sure it is not standard VGA(but ati radeon).

    I think the problem is not with the driver but maybe the system itself,
    click start and select run, type MSCONFIG and select start up TABS, try to reduce any unwanted start up program and see the difference in performance.

    For the google chrome, slow or fast loading depend on the internet connection speed, even if youy are using the same connection, the adapter (wireless/lan) is different between both machine

  30. to get the exact driver, open device manager, right click on the dell wireless 1397 WLAN mini card and select PROPERTIES, select DETAILS and on the DROPDOWN menu select hardware ID, copy and paste the hardware ID here.

    i format my Lapi and install OS window XP...bt i have a problem in audio device.they were nt working properly.and when i try to install audio driver a msg box display a msg that "sound media is not find"

    1. Download the this driver:

      Link : R269506

      Install and reboot.

      Look in device manager, under network adapter, id the broadcom 802.11a/b/g WLAN is marked as yellow mean the current driver is not compatible. If they are not so it was the problem with the wireless configuration.

    The question I'm about to ask is slightly out-of-context with respect to this thread. I have an unrooted android phone, and it doesn't detect ad-hoc wifi networks. Can you tell me any way this can be resolved?

    1. I don't know a lot about phone OS and networking,
      from what i know, unroot phone only detect access point and cannot detect adhoc.
      If the adhoc network is from your computer (you created it yourself) you can use Virtual Access Point (virtual AP) which turn wireless device into a virtual router, so you can create an access point network using your wifi device instead of adhoc. btw it also increase the signal range.

  42. i really appreciate your efforts what you have made regarding drivers etc. Sorry i do not have your name... but you appear as "Black" i also appreciate you if you let me know about my problem. i have laptop Dell inspiron 1440. i have installed Windows Xp SP2. but i m unable to install Wireless driver.. i have tried many including the above. when i right click on the driver there is no any option for extracting the file. hence still of no use.. The following errors appear when i install.
    1-file not supported on this operation system
    2- hardware not compatible
