Compaq Presario CQ40 series AMD and Intel

Compaq Presario CQ40 initially released in the time of Windows Vista, at that time many users downgrade to Windows XP and it was not an easy process. You will need SATA driver and a Slipstreamed DVD to install windows XP.

After that Windows 7 announced and HP released drivers for Windows 7 for certain CQ40 series and variant. You will find certain model such as CQ40-429TU which only have Windows Vista drivers on HP support site.

Actually you can use Windows 7 drivers from any CQ40 series because I can assure you that given CQ40-100, CQ40-200, CQ40-300, CQ40-400, CQ40-500, CQ40-600 and CQ40-700 all of them uses the same driver sets.

Compaq presario CQ40 series Drivers Installation Guide

Compaq identify model by assign suffix at the end of the model wild card number such as CQ40-401AU. AU means AMD model. Here are some suffix that commonly use:

AX/AU/LA = AMD model
TU/TX/XX/BR = Intel Model
