- Part 4: EDIT c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys part 2
- Part 5: Final Step
- FIX screen Rotation
IMPORTANT!
make sure you log in to you pc as administrator/use administrator account.
PART 1: Drivers
1. Download windows XP (32-bit and 64-bit) driver:
Intel(R) Graphics Controller 6.14.10.3722 (Windows)
Download (direct link)
You can use different driver version, so far this is the best version that worked.
Update 1 : july 2016 - version 6.14.10.3722 : you can directly skip Step 1-4 and directly proceed with step 5 (extract driver file and install manually using device manager). However I do believe it might not work with certain models but worth to try.
Newer version: v6.14.10.4497 - Download
Fix resolution 1200 x 800
Able to run latest Intel Extreme 2 System Tray - as reported by anonymous
.
2. Make a new folder on you desktop and name it as Intel graphic. We will use this folder to extract the driver file.
3. Copy and paste the driver on the Intel Graphic folder you just created, right click on the Intel_6_14_10_3722.zip and select extract here, it should look like this. ( i use Winrar to extract the driver file).
.
PART 2: UNINSTALL CURRENT DRIVERS
1. (If you did not install any drivers yet, skip this part and proceed with part 3.)
We need to uninstall previous driver first. Open device manager, look for Video controller and you will see Standard VGA Driver listed. Right click on it and select uninstall and restart.
PART 3: EDIT c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys
1.Click 'Start' and in 'Search Box' type 'cmd'. The result will show on top. Right-click on 'cmd' and choose "Run as Administrator". If your account does not have admin rights you might be prompted to enter username and password. I used account that already has administrator privileges.
2. Then type or copy/paste the following line and press enter:
takeown /f c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys
3. IYou will see a message SUCCESS after the process finished.
4. Next type or copy and paste this line into Command Prompt (CMD):
cacls c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys /G ajis:F
IMPOTANT: Replace!! ajis with your computer name. You can check your computer name by: Click start - look up on top right corner. Refer picture below:
Then press enter.
There will be a confirmation message so type 'y'
PART 4: EDIT c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys
1. Open c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys right click and select open or open with.
2. Choose second option "select program from a list of installed programs ".
3. Then select notepad.
4. Just add any character to the beginning of the text. Let's say we will add character x . So the text should start with xMZ and the rest of stuff. Save the file. This edit will render that file unusable.
Example before we add text it should look like this:
after adding text it should look like this
PART5: FINAL STEP
1.First open device manager by click start and type devmgmt.msc as shown in the pictures below.
2. In Device Manager uninstall Standard VGA Adapter.
3. It will prompt you to restart so do it.
4.After install you will see a message saying that certain devices did NOT installed successfuly, which is GOOD :).
5.Go to Device Manager and you should see the exclamation point next to "video controller" and "video controller (VGA compatible)". Right-click on "video controller (VGA compatible)" and SELECT update driver.
6.Choose "Browse my computer for the Driver Software" .
7. Then select browse:
8. Then notice that in part 1 i suggest you extract the driver in new folder (folder name: intel graphic). After click browse, point to that folder. expand by click the small arrow button until you find the win2000 folder.
9. Wait for the driver to be installed. It might hang for a little (It will say that window is "not responding"). Do not worry as this is still installing the driver. It will prompt you to restart so do it. (If it does not prompt click anywhere and wait for message). After restart it will finish installing the driver.
10. Open c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys in any text editor. Remove the first character you put there which was x. Save the file. it should look like this before saving it (MZ - ignore other character)
Your file will be usable again :). You can stop here if you want, but if you want to restore the permissions for the file to original state:
- Right-click on any other file in the c:\windows\system32\drivers. Choose "Properties". Go to "Security" tab.
- Now compare that security tab with the security tab of c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys.
- Just make sure the security tabs of those two files look the same (all tabs and advanced options).
- In order to add "TrustedInstaller" it is not the same as regular usernames because it is a service.
- You will need to type "NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller" (without quotes) when adding it to own the file and to have all permissions.
- Once you done editing you can delete your account from c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys, because it was not there from the beginning. We took control over and the previous commands added it by default..
SCREEN ROTATION FIX:
Credit: Mike
1. Open registry editor by click start and tyoe REGEDIT.EXE and press enter.
2. Look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - - SOFTWARE - - Intel - - CUI
DISPLAY1 - EnableRotation - set value to 1

ReplyDeleteWoooow excelent!! my English is not good but nothing I could do it without problem! thanks man!
ReplyDeleteMike Mexico
I followed all your instructions but I always get a an "access denied" message when I try to save the vgapnp.sys file. But, using your idea (thanx, btw) I copied the file on my desktop, renamed it "vgapnp.txt" and edited it. Then I booted my computer using Bart's PE disc and copy/pasted the edited file after renaming it back to "vgapnp.sys" to c:\windows\system32\drivers thereby replacing the original file. then the miracle happened.
ReplyDeleteSuper Tipp! Nach der Anweisung hat alles so funktioniert!

Aero isn't supported on this chipset, I don't believe.

ReplyDeleteIt works on an ACER Travelmate 6000.
Moreover I added "Transbar" and "True Transparency" and now it works looks like a very normal Win 7...
can u share how u added the transbar and transparency
ReplyDelete@Black-x:
ReplyDeleteYou can download the programmes for free for instance here:
http://www.chip.de/downloads/TrueTransparency_33756949.html
http://transbar.softonic.de/
But it´s just an optical advancement.
Much more important is the fact that I can play the usual games now on the Acer...
Thanks again - and Happy New Year
thanks for the feedback and happy new year=)
ReplyDeleteI forgot to tell that you should allow administrator admission - otherwise the PC will not start with the new settings and "forget" them...

ReplyDeleteHi Mr. Black-X,
ReplyDeleteThis is Sanjeev, back again on the forum, however this time with a different querry...m not sure if this is the blog that I can get it answered...nonetheless, I wanted to know, if it is possible to upgrade either the "processor" or the "graphic adapter" for compaq presario v2000 laptop.
Thanks in advance...
Hi sanjeev,
ReplyDeleteFor processor yes you can upgrade but so far only from 1.6Ghz processor upgrade to 1.8Ghz success, i don't know if you can upgrade it to 2.0 or 2.2Ghz, and maybe it require BIOS upgrade/tweak, just make sure the you use the same processor socket(so far from my experience it use 754 sockets).
if you decide to upgrade it, i suggest talk with any guy from the repair shop first, it may help you to decide, normally i only upgrade processor for desktop, from 1.6 to 1.8, no significant increase of performance.
for graphic i afraid no but doesn,t mean you cant, if i get more information ill let you know, that all i can share for now
Thank you Mr. Balck-x for the valuable input and suggestion....let me try talking to some repair center guys, if they can help me decide......
ReplyDeleteyou are welcome sanjeev, the repair guy should have experience with this stuff, even by theories you can upgrade but there are many things to consider first. Here at my place i didn't do any upgrade without help from the support center, example for the graphic, i will talk to many repair center guy then i decide after i satisfied with the info i get.
ReplyDeletehi black :) saya menemukan driver yang cocok untuk saya dan mungkin ini bisa di gunakan untuk teman-teman semua win2k_xp142550.exe file version 2.11.15.0 bekerja untuk laptop saya :)
ReplyDeletehi black:) I found the right driver for me and maybe it can be used for all my friends win2k_xp142550.exe file version 2.11.15.0 work for my laptop :)
thanks noah for the info =) btw what is your laptop model?
ReplyDeleteWorks IBM ThinkPad G40 :)
ReplyDeleteTY!
Great! Your fix worked on a 6 yr old Dell Inspiron 1150 .... even though it says on the Dell website that model is not capable of running Win7. Our 1150 laptop is now running Win7 with 1GB of RAM, a 2.8GHz 'processor, and super clear graphics - thanks to your fix. Nice work.
ReplyDeletehi...
ReplyDeletethanks 4 this...
its really works..
but now my notebook's monitor is not working or its not changing back to notebook...
what to do next..
Arham.
Hi arham, can you describe in details because i don,t reall get what is the problem, does u mean after installation, you restart the graphic driver uninstalled?
ReplyDeletekool.. u rock.ur god of computer
ReplyDelete..but resulation is 1024x768 watt 2 do
cud we increase lil more
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for this guide!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for this.. but i still have a question.. i cant understand the last part.. this -> In order to add "TrustedInstaller" it is not the same as regular usernames because it is a service.
ReplyDeleteYou will need to type "NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller" (without quotes) when adding it to own the file and to have all permissions.
Well for the trusted installer i will try it update it at the post with pictures, but if you are using compaq laptop there are easier way to do that, just mention your laptop model and ill provide the drivers
ReplyDeleteThanks for this solution.
ReplyDeleteI have a tablet pc (Toshiba Satellite R10). Any idea how I can get the screen to rotate like it used to?
I got the screen rotation figured out. I had to edit my registry. My old tablet pc is now running window 7 with no display issues. I'm a happy camper!
ReplyDeletehi mike,
ReplyDeletecan u share how did you edit the registry?
First I backed up my registry, and I suggest anyone trying this do the same.
ReplyDeleteHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Intel
CUI
DISPLAY1 - EnableRotation - set value to 1
This is what worked for me.
Wow.. It works like a charm! you are a life saver sir. Two Thumbs up for you... I also have (1) problem on my Mass Storage Controller. I have Lg xnote Ls40a I need to install it. but I'am not fortunate to have it. maybe you can help me to resolve my problem. Thanks in Advance and More Power.. God Bless
ReplyDeleteHi there,

http://laptop-driver.blogspot.com/2009/12/how-to-check-hardware-id.html
I follow your instructions but when I select the win2000 and click "ok" the system search and then send me a message that they couldnt install VGA driver ... I dont understand these ... help me please !!
ReplyDeleteATTE: paco
Anyone interested in getting 6.14.10.4497 to work - read this:
ReplyDeleteI've managed to get the Intel 6.14.10.4497 working on a Toshiba M100 with 82855GM graphics running Windows 7 SP1. I didn't use this method of disabling vgapnp.sys
Instead, after installing - I also 'reinjected' the drivers on shutdown -before reboot into Windows/system32/drivers by using Paragon 2011 Hard Disk Manager WinPE Boot Disk: Tools->Transfer Files. This allows you to bypass the TrustedInstaller Status.
The method which worked used a combo/hybrid driver- configuration files from 6.14.10.3722 and driver files from 6.14.10.4497.
The newer Desktop icon 'Intel Extreme Graphics 2 for Mobile' also works properly.
When installing 6.14.10.4497, there is also a 'bug' workaround required, the machine must be set up with region settings set to 'US', UK settings cause a error 'string request not found' in the driver on install. (You can switch region settings back once driver is installed)
I haven't worked out exactly which files are/aren't required, but the solution of combining latest driver files with the configuration files of the earlier driver does work.
The method I used was eliminating all common files to start with (one's which were identical between the new and older drivers), then transfering groups of files into the old driver until it worked.
It does seem faster than 6.14.10.3722.
Also fixed the sdcard problem on the Toshiba Portege M100 by injecting the older Vista Driver, so all drivers are the latest, and now work.
thanks man, this is great work. now im using my gateway laptop with win7.
ReplyDeletewow, u're the man... it works. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteit works !!!
ReplyDeletesooooo great THANKS from Germany !!
really great job!
hello bro..i'm using hp pavillion dv1000.
ReplyDeletei follow all ur instruction and driver still cant be installed.i notice someting difrent which is when i try to edit c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sy
that vgapnp.sys has a pic like key.but still i can open it using notepad to add 1 character like x that u mention.but when i save it its not being unstable like u said.its just be normal..what is my problem..hope u can help me..
have u use the option open with notepad, normally it would work, but here i would like to suggest a new way to install the graphic driver:
ReplyDelete1. Download this driver
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp28001-28500/sp28484.exe
2. Right click and select run as administrator. It will resulting in error, ignore it because the purpose is it will extract the driver to C:\SWsetup\sp28484.
3. Open device manager. To do this click start and on the search box type DEVMGMT.MSC and press enter.
4. Look at the graphic adapter you will see Standard VGA. Right click on it and select UPDATE driver.
5. Select Don't Browse my computer for driver software and click browse (tick the box INCLUDING SUBFOLDER).
6. Browse to C:\SWsetup\ssp28484 and click next. continue with on screen instruction and reboot.
IT WONT WORK i just wont find it for some reason when i get to the last part and i checked and tryed both ways
ReplyDeletesee it sais it wont find it and ive tryed the link and it shows it and ive extracted it
ReplyDeleteBefore I try the procedure, I woudl like to be sure that it would apply to the Intel® 82815 Graphics Controller which is installed on my Laptop SONY PCG FX370P.
ReplyDeleteWhen using Windows XP I can configure the display in 1024x768 64K colors but with Windows 7 I am limited to 640x480 when I want 64K colors.
Thank's ahead for your answer,
Henri M.
Im not sure with 64, coz i never try it, btw to safely follow the procedure without damaging any of your system file, just make restore point before the procedure, say if it fail just perform system restore.
ReplyDeleteThank's for your comment. I will try and let you know what happenned.
ReplyDeleteHenri
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI worked at it several hours yesterday .... No success ! I did manage to access the file vgapnp.sys and modify it in the directory Windows\system32\drivers but after the following steps and restart of my system it looks like the system looked for that file evrywhere and ...found it !
I noticed that there are 2 other occurences of that file :
one in directory windows\winsxs
oe in windows\system32\driver store\Filerepository\display.inf8x86....
Probably the system scans these directories and copy the file ?
What if I remove all occurences of this file after saving it on a different drive not scanned by the system ?
I'll let you know.
Henri
you can modify/change or remove files as long as you make restore point and backup for the files, I'm at hometown for almost 2 month now and will be back to the city in next 2 month (long vacation) so i dun have laptop with same specs for my references regarding your problem, but ill try to assist as much as i can
ReplyDeleteTHank's for your offer of assistance. But, unfortunately I guess ther is nos chance ! I managed to get thru the correct process eliminating all teh occurences of the file vgapnp.sys and reached the point when the system asked me to install the driver from the Win2000 directory .... It started by stopped saying there was some incommpatibility (SE Process not supported ?). I guess that it figured that the graphic card was not the one compatible with the software. So I went back to the previous restoration point which is not great because I have onmy a very small screen in 640x480 ! However I also kept a version of XP on teh same machine and with it the dsiplay is OK. TTime to get rid of this old stuff !
ReplyDeleteThank's again for your help,
Henri
Well, everything works fine with my tablet T4010d except the fact that I can not rotate screen. There is no option for orientation in screen properties, when I try to rotate through windows mobile centre nothing happens.Driver is updated with 6.14.10.3741, I also make a registry correction in display 1 but nothing.I will be very grateful if somebody could share solution with me.Also thanks to all people sharing information on this page.
ReplyDeleteVorda
Hi. In my computer management i don't have any display but these; http://imageshack.us/f/27/20110708112100.png/ but i noticed these under system devices; http://imageshack.us/f/42/20110708112154.png/
ReplyDeletewhat should i do? this is for the part 5 :( reli blur la
you should expand the arrow sign for the display adapter and post the image
ReplyDeletehttp://imageshack.us/f/27/20110708112100.png/
ReplyDeleteAs you can see here, there's nothing that says Display Adapter. :(
@Anis,
ReplyDeleteI think there something wrong with your system, I strongly recomend to Reformat and Reinstall windows and start to nstall the drivers again, to amek thing easy, PM e at kyoajis@gamil.com after you format, ill assist you with the graphic installation. But if your graphic work fine (mean smooth) and you can get MAX resolution means it OK and ignore the device manager status. (note that u cant enable aero with this graphic chip.)
I reformatted and did all the steps, now all works alright. Thanks! ;) eventho no aero thingy. i get it, its an old chap im not hoping too much hee.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback Anis, somtimes our windows isntallation could missed some files (due to bad CD, shake during isntallation etc). The great thing is you manage to solve it by urself =)
ReplyDeletethanks for the procedure it did work but half of it.
ReplyDeleteas the driver that worked for me is 6.14.10.4497
but after sucessfully installing and using it, after restart my laptop does not find the driver so again i update the diver and again it install it(also it doesnt ask for restart).
i even tried to restore the security settings of vgapnp.sys .but is of no help as it installs on the restart "vga driver" but not the "video controller"
can u suggest something how to not to lose the driver everytime i shutdown my computer(no hibernation)
it would be of great help man.
thanks
try this, but im not sure of it, theres a way to prvent computer to revert back to standard VGA, this happen to some laptop recently and i fogot how i did it, but ill try to remmeber it and post here, btw try this frist:
ReplyDeleteGo to Start–>Search type in gpedit.msc
Click the file to open the Local Group Policy Editor and show Windows who is in control!!
You want to go here: Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->System->Device Installation. Click on the subfolder Device Installation on the left and on the right side you will see the possible restrictions.
Right Click on Prevent Installation of Devices not described by other policy settings and edit this option, set it on ENABLED.
Reboot Windows and enjoy its inability to pollute your system with its standard driver, open gpedit.msc again and revert the change so you will be able to install your driver.
thanks for the reply man ,
ReplyDeletebut it did not work.after using procedure
as soon as i restart ,after successfully installing the driver, no driver found pops up.
is there something it had to do with the "vgapnp.sys" security settings.
by the way i appreciate that u replied so fast thanks for that too man
this happened to others too and maybe it does have things to do with the vgapnp.sys, this method itself created to prevent windows to revert back to standard VGA after installation.
ReplyDeletebtw
How about try this procedure in SAFE MODE, to log into safe mode, restart and when post screen show (say DELL/HP etc) press F8 repeatedly until you get the multi boot OS choice, select SAFE MODE and perform the method above.
hey man i finally got it working,
ReplyDeletei did two things :-changed the driver verion to 6.14.10.4704
and disable driver signing permanently by typing this in an elevated command prompt;
bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
restart then update the driver in compatibility mode along with admin permissions.
and after restart the driver was working smoothly.
although i wanna tell u that in the past i gave up to install the driver
but this blog of yours encouraged me that there must be a way to install the driver.so all credit and thanks goes to u.
a real thanks to u man :)
U r welcome, but i also want to thank you for your effort to find the solution. I really appreciate your feedack coz it could help others too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, thanks, thanks!!!! Great job! It works fine!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI managed to install the driver on the Acer TravelMate 4010, only to go to Device Manager and disable the "display adapter" and then install the driver 6.14.10.3762
ReplyDeleteThanks,thanks,thanks!!!! Thanks,thanks,thanks!!!! Thanks,thanks,thanks!!!! Thanks,thanks,thanks!!!! Thanks,thanks,thanks!!!!
ReplyDeletei love u
ReplyDeleteHi, Saya dari Johor. Nak tanye skit. Kenape bile buat part 3
ReplyDeletecacls c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys /G GamexCentre:F
dia kluar mcm nie:
GamexCentre: No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.
Harap awk dpt membantu....
masalh ni biasanya berlaku pada windows server, tapi saya perlukan sedikit maklumat, adakah laptop tu persendirian atau company?, ada berapa user yang guna laptop tu(account)?
ReplyDeleteHello Black - I followed your instructions and everythingwas just as you said it should be but my screen doesn't rotate. Is there anything I can do to ensure I have implemented your instructions correctly. I have a Gateway M250. It was OK with XP tablet but I upgraded to Windows 7 and that's when I lost the rotation
ReplyDeleteThis is the best illustrated guide for the driver replacement in win7. Could the forum guide me if the same process can be successfully implemented in win 8.( for the same intel display drivers- 82852/82855-)There the standard vga is called "basicdisplay.sys" in the place of vgapnp.sys in win7
ReplyDeleteI never test it yet with windows 8, maybe you can implement the same method by using the basicdisplay.sys, or maybe not.just make sure to make restore point before anything else. Ill try to find any laptop with the 82852 and test it with windows 8, ill update as soon as possible
ReplyDeleteThanks Black-x. will await your further updates in the matter (82852 vis-a-vis windows 8)
ReplyDeleteMan, driver is not updating
ReplyDeletewhat model did u use?
ReplyDeleteI applied the same way to basicdisplay.sys in windows 8 and i restarted the pc and it locked up, couldnt get to desktop.
ReplyDeletei use ibm thinkpad r50e
i am dying for a solution..
You need to install it again, but first we need to make your computer back to the original swtate before u modified it.
ReplyDeleteTo do that after restart press F8 and select safe mode, then perform system restore, note that i never tested in windows 8 and maybe there are several changes have been made and this method isn't compatible wif the OS
i am the thinkpad owner anonymous..
ReplyDeletei installed windows 7 after having no success in windows 8.
when we find a solution i will install windows 8 again..
thanks for the feedback eser, i only tried win 8 with my desktop, overall, i can that win 8 , the improvement more towards touchscreen computer
ReplyDeleteyes, exactly..
ReplyDeletethere should be a trick to install the driver..
the problem is that i can't continue the 3rd step because the user has 2 words...
ReplyDeletewhat to do if two words? it said "no mapping between account names and security IDs was done".
Hi,
ReplyDeletethis is the only solution I've seen yet after a long time of searching.
I'm enormously thankful for it but ...
It can probably be simplified!
Try these steps ...
1. Download the zip-file mentioned above.
2. Unzip it to a directory.
3. In Windows through the Device Manager uninstall the Display's driver,
and don't restart.
4. In the Device Manager install the Display driver by pointing to the directory in step 2.
5. Restart your computer.
6. Windows will find new hardware (the display) and install its driver (from step 4).
7. The display will now or after a second restart acknowledge new display settings.
DONE!
Best regards
DellD400JJ
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback, and it is what others need right now, and i know the method above quite complicated and hope your solution work wif others too, i'll update the post and thanks for the feedback =)

ReplyDeletethe only problem is this driver still not support direct x for graphic acceleration, even the newer version 6.14.10.3929,or maybe my old notebook did not meet the memory minimum requirement,it's 512MB instead of 1GB.
ReplyDeleteHP Compaq nx5000
Genius! Thank you so much. Was about to give up on this old Inspiron 1150 and put XP back on it cause the graphics would only do 640x480 with Win 7. Thanks again.

ReplyDeleteDude, i've reached the final step at ur post at Dec 3, 2011 01:07 AM to Amin
ReplyDeleteand i got this mark on the Display Adapter:
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/841/vgaq.png/
please help me
and another question, if we had that mark (!) on Display Adapter, what will happened to our PC?
I'm hoping ur help, dude :D
That (!) normally refer to incompatible driver. BUT i want you to remember that this tutorial intend to make the Intel 82525/85525 GME get max resolution. From the pic i saw your pc already have max resolution so ignore the (!) it will do no harm. Sometime in some cases i disable one of the VGA (dual VGA) marked with (!).
Deletethe (!) on the bluetooth means your bluetooth will not work properly so you need to install bluetooth driver.
Pretty much thx for u from Indonesia :D
Deletewow, u even concern bout the bluetooth, thx again dude
u r welcome buddy =)
DeleteMan, you are the BEST !!! Thank you for the good job!
ReplyDeleteI GOT THE VIDEO DRIVERS,IT WORKS FINE AFTER FOLLOWING EACH STEP BUT I CANT PLAY VIDEOS(MOVIES) IN VLC,KMP ETC
ReplyDeletethis may or may not cause by the drivers installation, may i know what the error u get after trying to play the videos/movies and the video format (avi, rmvb, flv etc)
Deletei didnt get any error in vlc, problem is i can hear only audio but there is no video visible its in black,in kmp player i can hear audio but video is suddenly changing to gray colour......
Deletethanks in advance for responding me quickly...pls help out...
Since this happened to me before, i notice that the certain video format require CERTAIN codecs to play such as RMVB format. The other thing that may cause this is there are too many codecs installed with different configurations.
DeleteFor now i suggest:
open vlc go to preferences>video>output module then check advanced options and then change the module to opengl
In my computer after formating i install this codec according to order : mcpstar - kmp - real one - vlc.
yes it works perfectly now ,thanks ur gr8\
Deleteand i have a small doubt that is can we apply aero scheme?how?is it work?
yes it works perfectly now ,thanks ur gr8\
ReplyDeleteand i have a small doubt that is can we apply aero scheme?how?is it work?
this graphic didn't support aero directly, i mean the architecture itself did not support aero in win 7, BUT virtually aero = yes. Install third party aero software, for example go to www.softpedia.com and search for AERO. try which software work best, i didn't test it yet but a user report it worked.
Deleteok anyways thanks for all........if i have any doubts i will post u later....
Deletethe laptop never came back from installing and probing the screen, but after like 20 enters, I shut it down, turn back on, everything went fine.
ReplyDeletePerfect, works great ....
ReplyDeleteThanks very much from the Czech Republic
Simplemente un trabajo maravilloso , muchas gracias maestro.
ReplyDeleteAlguien me explica la ultima parte en
ReplyDeleteespañol... i understan well the last part...
Right-click on any other file in the c:\windows\system32\drivers. Choose "Properties". Go to "Security" tab. Now compare that security tab with the security tab of c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys. Just make sure the security tabs of those two files look the same (all tabs and advanced options). In order to add "TrustedInstaller" it is not the same as regular usernames because it is a service.
You will need to type "NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller" (without quotes) when adding it to own the file and to have all permissions. Once you done editing you can delete your account from c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys, because it was not there from the beginning. We took control over and the previous commands added it by default.
i do all ok..but..i understan the last part..ty in advanced.
As the author of the original guide I would like to thank Black X on further explaining my guide. One thing I should point is to use 6.14.10.3732 driver instead of 6.14.10.3722. The 6.14.10.3732 driver has sleep mode fixed and stuttering media play fix.
ReplyDeleteGreat Job,
Lexxion
thanks for your great effort especially to make this available on the website. If you have more updates just let me know and ill post it here, once again thanks a lot from me and others
DeleteNone of the downloadlinks are working. :(
ReplyDeletelink fixed
Deletecan u plz help me.
ReplyDeletei follows all your step but in the last step where i will browse the driver, when i select it and click next, is telling me "windows was unable to install your video controller (vga compatible) please what am i gonna do to fix it?
what is your laptop model?
DeleteHey i have the same problem as him help me please
DeleteBlack-x, many, many thanks to you for all your work making Lexxion's instructions SO much easier to follow...your attention to detail in this tutorial is awesome, and just what I needed (I'm unclear about working commands/DOS)!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I might add is that in Step 2, if you've got a bad driver loaded already, make sure to check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device" in order to get the exclamation mark to appear; otherwise, it just keeps reinstalling upon every reboot.
Again though, thanks for such a through tutorial...I really appreciate it.
This worked on my Gateway 4542GP notebook.
There are some Pic i cannot add since i dun have any model using this graphic chipset, if you notice that there are some missing pic (other than u mentioned) since i just add the screenshot with my desktop (using ati) - But if u or others here have the sreenshot, do mail me and i add it here.
Deletebtw thanks for the feedback =)
To those having issues with movies on VLC players such as stuttering and lack of smooth video, try switching video output to "Direct X (Direct Draw) video feed" option.
ReplyDeleteMy video was terrible, and I had even tried the Open GL selection suggestion as noted above by Black-x, but it was no better. I then read where this chipset doesn't(perhaps fully) support Direct X, and I think this selection (Directx/Direct Draw) must intercede to correct the issue. And if that doesn't work, I'd experiment with the different outputs before giving up on the VLC player...it really is one of the best.
thanks for the info, thums up =)
DeleteGreat Help!
ReplyDeleteWorked like a charm on an old Fujitsu LifeBook P7010.
Many thanks
Unfortunately didnt work for me, got up to step 8 but it said that couldnt find the correct driver for my hardware ..! I had to do a system restore to undo all the changes :( Now i am stuck forever with a lousy graphic card with no driver..!!!! My computer is an hp pavilion dv1000.

ReplyDeleteThis worked on Dell Latitude D500 with Windows 7 SP1.
ReplyDelete(the latest Intel driver didn't work. Even though the driver seemed to install correctly, Windows always uninstalled it after reboot)
Though this is not the first time I have seen XP drivers being used on 7, that's the oldest driver (dated 2003.11.20, thats about 8.5 years old) I've seen that still works on 7.
Hey Man thanks a million...be blessed ! You just dont know how many people you have helped with this excellent post, this i what i call giving with open heart ! May God bless you in all you do !

ReplyDeleteGOT IT WORKING on my ACER TRAVELMATE 4002 WLMi
at a display resolution of 1280X800 (native for me widescreen display) BUT... it doesnt stick, after every reboot, i have to do the device manager>update driver again
what am i missing ???
I think you need another driver version because the current driver seems not stable.
DeleteTry this version : Download link: Intel VGA 855/852 driver 6.14.10.3762
Thanks for the work around - worked excellent for me - I had to tweak a Toshiba Satellite M35x with an old Intel 855GME graphics chip to use Windows 7 - excellent work my friend !
ReplyDeletewelcome =)

ReplyDeleteAs the author of the original guide I would like to thank Black X on further explaining my guide. One thing I should point is to use 6.14.10.3732 driver instead of 6.14.10.3722. Great Job
Thanks again for the update =)
DeletePlease give some update for windows 8. I am in deep trouble as I recently installed win 8 and it is freezing my ThinkPad R51 intermittently due to the video controller driver I guess. Thanks in advance.
ReplyDeleteYour model use Intel855 graphic which I don't have a good solution yet. So my recommendation try download this driver:
DeleteR51 graphic Download link
1. Download and extract it using winrar. (dun run to install.
2. Open device manager and right click on standard VGA select update driver.
3. Select browse my computer for device driver.
4. Click browse and point to extracted driver folder.
5. continue with on screen till installation finish.
Thank you for your reply. I tried the steps you mentioned. But it did not update driver. It gives the following error:
DeleteWindows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller
The driver selected for this device does not support this version of Windows
Please suggest some other alternatives.
by using the same steps earlier use this driver:
Deletelink
I tried the same steps with the drivers from the above link. But the same result.
DeleteHowever, I am relieved that though the driver is not installed, the problem of windows freezing is now solved by using the following workaround
http://www.withinwindows.com/2012/06/28/workaround-for-windows-8-freezing-issues/
I will be still looking for the driver though. Thanks a lot for your help.
installing wrong graphic driver may cause blue screen or freezing, i forgot to mention that if we are going to install driver which not from the manufacture, first we must make restore point so every time there's something wrong you can restore your computer to the earlier state.
DeleteThe freezing problem reappeared even when dynamic clock tick is disabled as suggested in the work-around. Also I found out that VLC / media player do not work most of the time. So it seems that I must install a driver for the graphics card.
DeleteFor now i still didn't find a good way to install it, btw i'll keep you update if i found anything and do let me know if you manage to do it.
DeleteWorking properly, of corse without Aero suport, but is still a good fix.
ReplyDeleteTX.
thanks for da feedback
DeleteDear magic guy. I have unsuccessfully attempted this feat. I have a Toshiba Satellite r10 with this chipset. It seems my issue is that it will not 'find' any device drivers. i merely unzipped the driver in my downloads and tried to find them there to no avail. my email is letsworkunlimited@gmail.com thanks ahead of time

ReplyDeleteHi Man, thanks for the guide!
ReplyDeleteI have a problem at point 5.9 : after the reboot of windows7 , the driver installation failed! All the steps before were fine! Now on device manager i have no "video controller" or "video controller (vga compatible)" or "Display adapters".. any idea of what was wrong?
Thanks for the help!
perform system restore, u will have the video controller back on your device manager.
Deletebtw what is your laptop model?
mine is an old asus a3n series notebook pc. I tried the drivers provided by asus however after reboot windows says drivers could not be installed. I aplied your solution step by step still same, except one thing: it does not install standard graphics adapter after reboot.
